Combining a range of popular and artistic responses to his legacy, Encountering Reynolds takes an intriguing look at Reynolds’s continuing presence beyond the walls of the museum. Filmmaker Dr David Hilton explores the material traces of Reynolds’s effigy, cast in stone at some of London’s leading landmarks, while the exhibition also examines the ongoing relevance of Reynolds’s work to the contemporary artist. From the Victorian obsession with this forefather of the British art world to the kitsch of vintage memorabilia, Encountering Reynolds offers a unique view of artistic celebrity in the everyday.
